Medical Toolmaking FAQs

How our expertise supports your project

Natech’s mold making is led by master moldmakers with decades of experience. All molds are built domestically using advanced techniques like CNC machining, EDM, milling, and grinding, ensuring high-quality molds that run automatically and require minimal repairs.

Natech manufactures a variety of molds, including R&D molds and production molds. Our capabilities include steel insert configurations, mold sampling, first article inspection, and creating molds that can last over 1,000,000 cycles.

We design our molds using advanced analysis techniques such as mold flow, cooling, deflection, and finite element analysis. These methods optimize mold performance, cycle times, and longevity, reducing the need for frequent repairs.

Natech uses materials based on the specific needs of the client. For example, aluminum molds (Class 104) are more cost-effective for low-volume production, while hardened steel molds (Class 101 or 102) are ideal for long-term, high-volume production and can last over 1,000,000 cycles.

Mold flow analysis helps us predict the behavior of the molten material as it fills the mold, allowing us to optimize cooling and minimize defects. This ensures a more efficient, high-quality production process with fewer cycle interruptions.

Yes, our moldmakers are skilled in mold maintenance and repairs. We use techniques such as core and cavity block replacement, polish inserts, venting inserts, and shutoff inserts to extend the life of your mold and maintain optimal performance.

We use SPI mold classifications, a widely accepted system in the moldmaking industry. This system allows clients to understand the trade-offs between different types of molds in terms of durability, cost, and production speed. For example, Class 101 molds are hardened steel molds designed for long-term, high-volume production, while Class 104 molds are aluminum, better suited for short runs.

The lifespan of a mold depends on the material and class. High-quality, hardened steel molds can last for over 1,000,000 cycles, while aluminum molds are generally better suited for shorter production runs and have a shorter lifespan.

Natech primarily serves industries like medical, pharmaceutical, and diagnostics with precision injection molds. Our molds are designed for high-complexity, high-performance applications that require consistent quality and durability.

Natech uses first article inspections and advanced analysis tools to ensure each mold meets the specified tolerances and performance criteria. This helps to guarantee that the molds will produce accurate, high-quality parts consistently throughout their lifespan.
